How SAATH Works

Finding the Right Companion Should Feel Personal

We do not believe companionship should begin with simply allocating whoever happens to be available. The relationship matters. That is why we take time to understand both the individual and their family before regular visits begin.

    Start With a Conversation

Contact SAATH by telephone, email or our enquiry form. Tell us a little about the person you are seeking companionship for and what you feel would help.

  2. 02

    Getting to Know You

We arrange an initial conversation to understand the individual's circumstances, personality, routines, interests and preferences. Where relevant, we can discuss:

    • Preferred language
    • Cultural background
    • Religious or faith considerations
    • Interests and hobbies
    • Preferred days and times
    • Mobility considerations
    • Types of outings or activities enjoyed
    • Communication preferences
    • Family involvement

    Compatibility & Matching

We consider which available SAATH companion may be most compatible. Matching may take account of language, personality, interests, culture and practical considerations such as location and availability. We cannot guarantee every requested characteristic, but we will always try to create a comfortable and appropriate match.

    Introduction

Where possible, an introductory meeting or first visit allows everyone to become acquainted. Companionship should never feel forced. We want both the older person and their family to feel comfortable with the arrangement.

  5. 05

    Regular Visits

Once everyone is happy, regular visits can begin. The frequency and nature of visits will depend upon the agreed companionship arrangement.

  6. 06

    Staying Connected

Good companionship develops over time. We therefore keep arrangements under review and encourage feedback from the person receiving support, their family and the companion. Where consent has been provided, families can also receive agreed updates.

Circumstances Change

We review arrangements with care

Older people's circumstances can change over time. If we believe someone's needs have developed beyond the type of companionship SAATH provides, we will discuss this sensitively and consider what the appropriate next step should be.

Companionship should never feel forced.
